I know my kiddos are going to shout, “Hip, Hip, Hooray, It’s President’s Day!”
Plus, I prepped our poems about Abraham and George Washington! Putting facts to a little jingle always helps my kiddos so much!
Then, we are going to make these fun brochures with the facts we learned in each poem! Take that, Common Core Informational Writing standard!
These are my favorite two poems and extension activities from my I Can Read February Poetry Binder!
Of course, we’ll also read about George and Abe, as well as complete a few graphic organizers and writing activities!
And wait until you see their adorable illustrations of Abe and George… I can’t even! We used our emergent readers to help us write three facts about each president.
You can grab the bubble map and informational writing page for George Washington below!
You can bet we’ll be making a few President’s Day crafts throughout the week too! One of my favorites are these pretzel log cabins. Head on over to this blog post to read all about them!

As a dedicated Kindergarten teacher for nearly 20 years, I believe the words “fun, play, and creativity” can sit right alongside the words “developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous.” Learning is meant to be fun and messy!
